QUETTA: The Quetta-born No. 04 seed Shah Jahan Khan claimed his first ever PSA World Tour title after a bruising victory over Arthur Gaskin in the final of the Colony Ford Lincoln NSA Open, PSA M5 tournament.
World No.98 Khan overcame Michael McCue in a tough semi-final matchup while Gaskin dispatched plucky qualifier Jesus Camacho to achieve his final berth.
Gaskin started the match in the ascendancy, taking the ball short and varying the pace of his shots to great effect to force Khan into a number of early unforced errors. The Irishman took full advantage to run away with the first game before Khan overturned a three match ball deficit to rise to a 12-10 victory in the second.
The third game saw Khan keep up his momentum, dropping just two points to the Irishman, before Gaskin surged ahead in the fourth to level the tie up.
As the match crept over the hour-mark, the temperature on court began to grind Gaskin down and Khan, sensing an opportunity to attack, responded by unleashing a flurry of hard-hitting drives to finally see off the number two seed and claim a 6-11, 12-10, 11-2, 4-11, 11-7 victory to finally break his PSA World Tour title duck.
