QUETTA: The crackdown against the sale of substandard food items and meat has been launched by the district administration and Metropolitan Corporation as six hotels and food points operating in the main city area were sealed the other day.
The Assistant Commissioner Quetta City, Muhammad Tariq Mengal led the Joint Task Force in the crackdown against the hotels and restaurants using and selling substandard and unhygienic food material in the city and thus sealed six such outlets located on the Prince Road.
Others included in the Task Force were: Special Magistrate Babrak Khan, the chairperson of the Metropolitan Corporation’s Food Committee, Ms. Farzana Baloch, Dr. Muhammad Waris, Dr. Faisal Razzaq and police officials.
The Task Force also charged the owners of nine hotels and restaurants with the fine of Rs. 71,000.
Meanwhile, talking to the media persons, the Assistant Commissioner Quetta City, Tariq Mengal and Ms. Farzana Baloch said that the action has been started against the hotels and restaurants using substandard food stuff and then selling it to the customers, in the city on special directives of the Mayor Quetta Metropolitan Corporation and Commissioner Quetta Division.
They said that the checking would be done on daily basis and stern action would be taken against those hotels and food points using the poor quality food material and not taking care of the hygiene.
They said that a large number of citizens visit the Prince road food street food for having breakfast, lunches and dinners. But, what has been witnessed and observed that the substandard and stale food is being sold there, which is causing health problems to the diners, they regretfully pointed out. In view of the complaints of the people, the district administration came in action and took action against them.
The Assistant Commissioner asserted that no one would be allowed to sell substandard and unhygienic food items to the people. He asked the owners of the restaurants and food points to take well care of the hygiene at their outlets.
