22 stone crushing plants closed in Municipal limits

QUETTA: The Quetta district administration has closed as many as 22 stone crushing plants, which were operating in and around Quetta city.
According to an official hand out issued here, the action was led by the Assistant Commissioner Quetta City, Muhammad Tariq Mengal and Assistant Commissioner Quetta Sadar, Munir Ahmed Mosiani.
The hand out mentioned that the crackdown has been started against the crushing plants established in different parts of the city and its surrounding areas.
Needless to mention here is that the Balochistan High Court (BHC) had directed to take action against the crushing plants.
In light of the BHC’s directives, the Deputy Commissioner Quetta, Dawood Khan Khilji had issued special directives.
A division bench of the BHC, in its order, had directed the provincial government to shift stone crushing plants from the municipal limits of Quetta city to safer areas in two months.
The bench comprising Chief Justice Mohammad Noor Meskanzai and Justice Mohammad Hashim Kakar issued the directive on a petition filed by Abdul Khair Achakzai advocate.
The court asked the government to identify safer zones to be certified by the Environmental Protection Agency in a month. The zones should be located at the distance of two kilometers from national highways, residential areas, hospitals and schools.
It said that no one should be allowed to set up a stone crushing plant in the municipal limits of the city.
