HQ City Report
QUETTA: The Quetta Metropolitan Corporation (QMC) has stopped the salaries of 234 absent sweepers in the metropolis.
This was informed during a meeting of the Sanitation Committee of the QMC, which was held with Deputy Mayor, Muhammad Younas Baloch in the chair the other day.
The chairmen of the Zone-I and Zone-II, Haji Fakhruddin and Yasin Bangulzai as well as the members of the Sanitation Committee briefed the meeting that the committee visited different areas of the city to check presence of the sanitary staff including the sweepers in the metropolis.
They said that the salaries of some 234 sweepers were stopped during visit of the sanitary committee last month. The amount of the absent staff was estimated around Rs. 2.2 million. So, it was decided to stop their salaries until and unless they resume duties on regular basis and serve accordingly, it was informed.
It is an unfair to get salaries without discharging duties what the sweepers had been doing for long, the members of the sanitary committee said.
Those showing sympathy to the absentee staff are not well wishers with the corporation nor they are sincere with the citizens of the city, they asserted.
It has been decided to check the attendance sheet of the sweepers and other concerned staff on regular basis and the area councilors and the committee would prepare the final sheet of the salaries.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Mayor said that we are committed to bring improvement in state of cleanliness in the metropolis.
For the purpose, all available resources are being mobilized, he maintained. No pressure would be accepted in improving the cleanliness situation, he asserted adding that all the sanitary staff would be made bound to perform well.
