QUETTA: The Deputy Mayor of Quetta Metropolitan Corporation (QMC), Muhammad Younas Baloch has stated that the Social Welfare Department is playing vital role in prevention of the social evils besides working for social development in the province.
This, he stated while addressing the closing ceremony of the Sports and Culture Week observed by the Center for treatment and rehabilitation of the drug addicts, Social Welfare Department, Government of Balochistan here the other day.
The Deputy Mayor said that there is a strong connection between the general public and the Social Welfare Department. All segments of the society should contribute in the good cause of the society in view of its effective role for social development and promoting good social culture in the province.
Younas Baloch on the occasion went round of different sections of the drug addicts’ rehabilitation center and inspected the facilities made available there for the patients.
He also watched the patients while working in the industrial home being run under arrangements of the Social Welfare Department.
He also inspected different products prepared by the patients during treatment and rehabilitation process at the industrial home.
He assured that he would do his best to develop the industrial home in his capacity of the Deputy Mayor.
The Administrator of the drug rehabilitation center, Javed Baloch briefed the visiting Deputy Mayor about the overall functioning of the center and its performance.
Later, the Deputy Mayor distributed shields and prizes among the patients in the center.
It may be mentioned here that the Sports and Culture Week was observed from September 14-19 by the Social Welfare Department.
The patients being treated at the rehabilitation center of the Department took wholehearted part in the sports and different cultural activities organized in connection with the Sports and Culture Week.
The competitions of football, cricket, volleyball, tug-of-war, athletics, carom board besides Balochi chaap and other traditional dances were held.
