QUETTA: A joint session of the Balochistan Educational and Environment Journey (BEEJ) and OXFAM was held here the other day.
The policy draft of the Balochistan Agricultural Policy was discussed on the occasion.
Those who were in attendance were included the Member Provincial Assembly and Chairman of the Standing Committee of Balochistan Assembly for Agriculture and Food, Nasarullah Zairay, Director General Agriculture, Research, Javed Tareen, leader of Agriculture Action Committee, Haji Abdullah, Director of BEEJ, Syed Qurban Gharsheen, Dr. Qasim, besides the representatives of the civil society, non-governmental organizations and the government officials.
The Director General Agriculture highlighted the draft of the policy on agriculture in detail. He spoke at length about different aspects of the draft of the policy.
He said that it is a way forward for development of agriculture sector in the province further.
Speaking on the occasion,Nasarullah Zairay appreciated the draft of the policy and assured that it would be presented in next meeting of the provincial cabinet for approval.
He expected that the next meeting of the cabinet is likely to be held after Eid. He praised the efforts of the BEEJ and OXFAM for formulation of the policy with regard to promotion of agriculture and addressing other issues in the sector.
The Director BEEJ talked about the issues faced and being faced by the small farmers and growers.
He sought the role of the government for provision of opportunities of jobs to the graduate youth. He stressed the need to utilize the potential of the youth in agriculture sector.
It would not only help provide livelihood to the youth but it would also help develop and promote agriculture sector in the province, maintaining Syed Qurban Gharsheen hoped.
