QUETTA: Provincial Health Department has started investigation into the fresh case of polio reported from Quetta the other day.
The sources said that the investigations would be made as how and why the polio virus was detected in a child while a full fledged National Immunization Days (NID) campaign had been launched in earlier September in Quetta and other parts of the province. It would be determined whether the case was a refusal or otherwise.
Needless to mention here is that the strict monitoring of the immunization campaign was also done. The secretaries of different provincial government departments had been assigned the responsibilities of monitoring of the campaign.
It may also be mentioned here that the polio virus was detected in a three-year old boy child namely Naqeebullah, the resident of the eastern-bye pass area in Quetta suburb.
With the fresh polio case, the number of cases in Quetta rose to four. Two cases (one each from Killa Abdullah and Loralai) have also been reported from Balochistan.
Meanwhile, the spokesman of the Emergency Operation Center (EOC) for Eradication of Polio in Quetta told that the anti-polio campaign would be made more effective in future so that no case was reported.
He said that a campaign is being planned in Quetta. Hopefully, the next immunization campaign would be launched in mid October this year, the spokesman said.
He said that all the parents would be requested to ensure immunization of their children against the crippling disease.
He asked the people to identify the areas which were left from immunization during the campaign.
Meanwhile, a meeting was held to review arrangements for the forthcoming polio immunization campaign in Naseerabad district here the other day.
The Deputy Commissioner, Naseer Ahmed Nasser presided over the meeting.
Divisional Director of Health, Abdul Latif Lehri, Deputy District Health Officer, Dr. Syed Mukhtiar Shah, Assistant Commissioner Nabi Bakhsh Bardo, besides other concerned officials attended the meeting.
The Deputy DHO briefed the meeting about the arrangements made for the campaign. It was informed that the campaign would be launched from October 12-14, 2015.
Over 1,30,000 children upto the age of five years of age would be administered the anti-polio drops during the campaign, it was informed further.
As many as 329 teams have been formed for the purpose, it was informed adding that arrangements have also been made at the different health establishments and transit points.
