QUETTA: It is our collective responsibility to save children from different diseases particularly the polio and it is possible only through routine immunization.
This and similar views were expressed by the Manager of Expanded Programme of Immunization (EPI), Dr. Ishaq Panezai, Ms. Huma Khawar and Ms. Shaista Yasmeen while addressing a one-day workshop held under the auspices of a NGO-Uks here at the Press Club.
The workshop was exclusively arranged for the media persons.
The speakers said that the role of media is important in creating awareness among the general public about the routine immunization of the children against different diseases.
It would be a great health problem in future, if we did not immunize our children in time, so an immediate awareness is needed to be created in the society, they stressed.
They also described the lack of routine immunization as the major cause of high infant mortality in the province.
We can save hundreds of life by just ensuring immunization of the children and taking well care of their nutrition, they stressed.
They regretfully pointed out that only 16 percent children are properly immunized against different diseases in the province. They said that we need to improve our routine immunization to save lives of our future.
Dr. Ishaq, on the occasion, said that while the people are now interested in polio immunization, but they lack awareness about immunization against other diseases in the province. He also said that immunization help children fight diseases.
In addition to the media, the role of religious leaders, politicians and social activists is also important in convincing community in their respective areas to immunize the children so as to save them from the multiple diseases, he stressed.
