Dr. Fouzia Saeed says Islamabad is keen
in developing traditional and cultural
heritage of Balochistan province

QUETTA:A traditional and cultural session on preservation and promotion of the Balochi Lok Virsa (traditional heritage) was held at the Turbat University. The Balochi department of the University hosted the session.
The Executive Director, Lok Virsa, Pakistan National Institute for Folk and Traditional Heritage, Islamabad, Dr. Fouzia Saeed was the chief guest at the sitting while Vice Chancellor of Turbat University, professor Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sabir presided over.
The faculty members as well as administrative staff and students of the University attended the sitting in large number.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Fouzia Saeed spoke at length about the aims and objectives behind arranging the session. She said that the Lok Virsa Islamabad is keen to develop the traditional heritage in the country and so in Balochistan and its remote areas, she maintained.
Dr. Fouzia, who also happens to be a social activist, gender expert, trainer/facilitator, development manager, folk culture promoter, television commentator and author, maintained that it is an unfair to exploit the people or subject the women to domestic violence in the name of tradition or culture. Rather it is an exploitation of the culture and tradition, she added.
Dr. Fouzia Saeed on the occasion also said that it is included in our priorities to introduce the Balochi Lok Virsa through modern technology as well as provide the research scholars of the University to serve in Lok Virsa Islamabad.
It would help transfer the heritage to the next generations, she believed.
She mentioned that the Saroz competitions are being conducted all over the country including Balochistan to promote Balochi cultural heritage in the country and the world.
The area of Turbat is very fertile with regard of poetry and literature, she observed.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice Chancellor of Turbat University, Professor Abdul Raazaq Abdul Saboor Baloch thanked Dr. Fouzia Saeed Lok Virsa Islamabad for her visit to the Kech city and Turbat University.
They said that the joint collaboration of the Turbat University and Lok Virsa Islamabd would help preserve and promote the traditional and cultural heritage of the area. It would also help give the Balochi department the status of traditional and cultural heritage research Institute.
The Vice Chancellor said that this region has been custodian of the traditions, culture and old civilization, so it is needed to be preserved and introduced to the world as well.
He believed that traditions and culture have never been hurdle in way of modern day’ inventions and discoveries.
Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University said that the research activity is first priority of the Turbat University. The University would not only be the custodian of the Balochi tradition and culture, but it would also play key role in their development and projection, he believed.
In this regard, a comprehensive plan is under consideration to establish chairs in the name of Mulla Fazil and Atta Shad besides launching the certificate and diploma courses in the University, he mentioned.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor highlighted the overall performance and functioning of the University he heads for last two years.
He also briefed the visiting guests about progress of the University. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Turbat University and Lok Virsa Islamabad for increasing promotion of the Balochi traditional herigate, culture and music.
The Vice Chancellor also presented a commemorative shield to the guests.
