SSGC’s drive against illegal connections:

HQ City Report

QUETTA: The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has launched an extensive campaign against the illegal Sui gas connections in different parts of the province.
According to the Zonal Manager of SSGC, Muhammad Anwar Baloch, the campaign was preliminarily launched in Mastung and Khad Kocha areas of the province where over 100 illegal gas connections were disconnected.
The gas supply was suspended to the illegal connection holders in the area, Anwar Baloch said.
A few gas generators being used for generation of electricity were also impounded. He mentioned that according to an estimate, some 400 houses were being supplied gas from the illegal connections disconnected during one last week in Mastung and Khad Kocha areas.
The Zonal Manager said that there had been an issue of the low gas pressure in these areas due to the pilferage of gas. As several illegal connections have been disconnected, so the issue of low gas pressure has been resolved to a great extent, he claimed.
He also said that the campaign against the illegal gas connection holders would remain continued in future. No discrimination would be made in the action to be taken against the gas thieves, he asserted.
It may be mentioned here that there were complaints about the low gas pressure from the Mastung, Khad Kocha and Kalat when severe cold has gripped the areas. The low gas pressure was causing problems to the people in the severe cold weather.
Meanwhile, the arrears on account of the gas utility bills have increased to over Rs. 1.4 billion against the defaulters. The defaulters are included the domestic consumers and different government departments and institutions.
There are around 1.2 billion rupees outstanding against the domestic consumers while the amount outstanding against the government departments is around Rs. 0.2 billion.
The SSGC sources said that the company has started campaign for recovery of the dues from defaulters. It was requested to all the consumers to pay / clear their dues otherwise their connections would be disconnected.
