Ruthless cutting of forests:
HQ City Report
QUETTA: The Provincial Ombudsman, Muhammad Wasey Tareen has directed to the government of Balochistan to enhance the prison sentence and amount of penalty over cutting of trees and deforestation in the province amending the necessary law in this regard.
The Ombudsman observed that it becomes difficult to stop deforestation because of less punishment awarded otherwise to the violators.
It may be mentioned here that the Provincial Ombudsman has taken suo moto notice of the public complaints regarding “ruthless†cutting of valuable forests in Wam Tangi area of Harnai district.
The necessary explanation had been sought from the concerned authorities by the Ombudsman.
During the hearing, the District Forests officers appeared before the Provincial Ombudsman and submitted that cases have been registered against several persons on the charges of cutting of trees.
The cases either are under trial in the court of Judicial Magistrate Harnai or the honourable court has already given judgments on the same , it was informed to the Ombudsman.
However, the people again start cutting of trees just because of less punishment and fine charged from them, it was told further.
On that, the Ombudsman disposed of the case and directed to the provincial government to amend the related law about sentence and penalty. The punishment and amount of penalty should be increased against those involved in deforestation so as to prevent the deforestation in the province, the Ombudsman directed further.
