QUETTA: Chief Secretary Balochistan, Saifullah Chattha has expressed his displeasure over construction of hundreds of buildings and hospitals in violation of Building Code in Quetta city.
He was addressing a meeting to review the matters related to implementation on the Building Code in provincial metropolis the other day.
Those who were in attendance in the meeting were included: Mayor Quetta Metropolitan Corporation (QMC), Dr. Kalimullah Khan Kakar, Secretary Quetta Development Authority (QDA), Imran Zarkoon, Secretary Local Government Board, Faisal Jamal, Director General Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Tahir Minhas besides others.
The Chief Secretary pointed out that hundreds of buildings and hospitals have been constructed in violation of the Building Code.
While on the other hand, the process is still continued, means more buildings are being raised in the city, he maintained.
He warned that the buildings raised in violation of Building Code would be demolished. No relaxation would be given to anyone in this regard, he added.
He on the occasion also took notice of the buildings which are old and in poor state. The buildings, which are not in good condition, would also be demolished, he asserted.
The Chief Secretary also voiced concern over construction of buildings without the No Objection Certificate (NOC).
He directed to the concerned authorities not to allow anyone raising buildings without the requisite NOC.
Meanwhile, the Quetta district administration’s crackdown against the high rise buildings constructed in violation of the Building Code in the city.
A team led by the Special Magistrate Babarak Khan supervised the campaign against such buildings.
He took notice of construction of two buildings including a hospital and demolished their upper stories the other day.
Needless to mention here is that there are more than 300 buildings in Quetta which had been constructed in violation of the Building code, as the sources of QMC informed.
Even the Baldia Plaza, located in Bacha Khan Chowk downtown of Quetta, is 60 feet high, and apparently raised in violation of the Building Code.
It may also be mentioned here that a resolution was also passed against violation of the Building Code in the provincial assembly earlier this year.
The Member of the opposition MPA Ms. Husan Bano had presented resolution, emphasizing on making sure the implementation of building code in Quetta.
The resolution had warned that Quetta is located on a fault-line and any earthquake in the offing could recast the devastations of 1935. The resolution was also seconded by Provincial Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal who also emphasized further legislation over the issue.
During the debate on the issue, it was regretfully pointed out that violation of building code is rampant in Quetta and the private hospitals are also seen increasing rapidly but no parkings are made in any hospital buildings except a few which aggravates the traffic problems.
