140 coalmines declared unsafe in Balochistan: Chief Inspector Mines

QUETTA: The Provincial Mines Department has declared some 140 coalmines unsafe in the province.
According to the Chief Inspector Mines, Iftikhar Ahmed, the coalmines declared unsafe fall in different areas of the province including Duki Tehsil of Harnai, Shahrag area of Harnai, Mach Tehsil of Bolan, Khanozai area of Pishin and Quetta district.
The Chief Inspector Mines told that it has been ordered to close the coalmines declared unsafe because of the lack of safety measures, their poor condition and presence of the lethal gases.
In all 70 such coalmines are located in Duki, 29 located in Khanozai, 18 in Shahrag, 16 in Mach and nine are located in Quetta, Iftikhar Ahmed mentioned.
The Chief Inspector Mines also mentioned that the coalmine which met a fatal mishap on Tuesday morning claiming lives of three coal mine workers in Duki had also been declared dangerous for the same reasons. However, the coal mine owner did not pay any heed towards warning already issued and kept on operating the mine. And then the lethal gas emitted from the coalmine claimed lives of three mine workers, the Chief Inspector Mines maintained.
