QUETTA: All is set to launch special polio immunization campaign all over the province from December 14.
According to the Provincial Coordinator of Emergency Operation Center (EOC) for Polio Eradication, Dr. Syed Saifur Rehman, the polio immunization campaign is scheduled to be carried out in all districts of the province.
He said that we have to vaccinate 24,72,616 children below five years of age during the special immunization campaign.
More than 8,000 teams have been formed for the task of vaccination to children, Dr. Saifur Rehman informed. They are included 6,603 mobile teams, 796 fixed teams and 321 transit teams.
In addition to them, 46 permanent transit teams have also been formed to administer the anti-polio vaccine to the children, he maintained.
Referring the security arrangements made for the campaign, the Coordinator of EOC told that the necessary security arrangements have been made with the personnel of Police, Levies Force and Frontier Corps (FC) would be deployed with the health workers and volunteers.
It would be our utmost endeavor to achieve the desired target of immunization during the forthcoming campaign, he pledged.
In this regard, all the parents have been asked to ensure immunization of their children so as to save them from the crippling disease of Polio, he urged.
He has also appealed to all other segments of the society to fully back the campaign.
While a meeting has already been held under the chair of Chief Secretary, Saifullah Chattha to review the preparations made for the forthcoming polio immunization campaign, similar meetings are also being arranged in different districts to finalize the arrangements at the district level.
Addressing the meeting, the Chief Secretary stated that it is an important responsibility to eradicate polio from the province, and as such effective steps are being taken for the purpose.
He on the occasion directed to the concerned authorities to ensure foolproof security of the teams engaged in anti-polio task and immunization campaign.
The Chief Secretary expressed his satisfaction over the arrangements and directed to make them more effective so as to rid the province of the fatal virus.
Moreover, the Commissioner Quetta, Kambar Dashti and Coordinator of EOC, Dr. Saifur Rehman also co-chaired the meeting in Quetta ahead of the polio immunization campaign.
The meeting particularly focused on the campaign to be conducted in Killa Abdullah.
A similar meeting was held in Sibi with the Deputy Commissioner, Noorul Haq Kakar in the chair the other day.
Additional Commissioner Sibi, Syed Riaz Hussain Shah, Assistant Commissioner Sibi, Zakir Hussain, Tehsildar Sibi, Mir Rehmatullah Gashkori, District Health Officer, Mir Manzoor Ahmed Baloch, Medical Superintendent of Divisional Headquarter Hospital, Dr. Ghulam Sarwar Hashmi, besides other concerned.
The meeting was briefed about the arrangements made for the immunization campaign in Sibi district.
The DHO Sibi on the occasion told that 41,741 children would be administered the anti-polio vaccine during the three-day campaign to be conducted from December 14-16.
In all 222 teams have been formed for the campaign. In addition to them, anti-polio vaccine would aslo be administered to the children at 42 fixed and 8 transit points, he maintained.
Strict monitoring of the campaign would also be made through the doctors and other concerned officials.
Similarly, the arrangements made for polio immunization campaign in Naseerabad district were also reviewed. The Deputy Commissioner, Naseer Ahmed Nasser was in the chair.
Briefing the meeting, the DHO, Dr. Abdul Manan informed that 1,34,950 children below five years of age would be administered the anti-polio vaccine during three-day campaign in the district.
In order to immunize the children, 329 different teams have been formed. They are included 129 females.
Moreover, 34 fixed centers and 28 transit points would also serve the cause of polio immunization, he maintained.
