APS Peshawar’s martyrs remembered in big way

Various ceremonies, activities and walks held marking
first anniversary of APS Peshawar’s gory incident;
rich tributes paid to martyrs for their sacrifices;
prayers also offered for their departed souls

QUETTA: The martyrs of Army Public School (APS) Peshawar were remembered in a big way in the provincial metropolis on Wednesday.
A series of activities including seminars, functions, demonstrations and walks besides candle lighting events were arranged to mark the first anniversary of the horrible terrorism incident occurred at the APS Peshawar on December 16 last year claiming lives of over 145 students, teachers and others.
The martyrs of the APS Peshawar carnage were paid homage for the great sacrifice of their lives in fight against terrorism.
A function marking the anniversary was held at the APS Garrison Academy, Quetta cantonment in Wednesday morning.
The Southern Command’s Brigadier Muhammad Ramzan was chief guest at the impressive ceremony. The participating personalities including the senior officers of Pak army, teachers and students of the Garrison Academy paid homage to the martyrs of APS Peshawar.
Moreover, the candles were also lit on the occasion. The speeches were also delivered and various skits were presented by the students in memory of those lost their lives in the gory incident.
A slide show containing the pictures of the martyrs with their names was also presented, which really moved the participants.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said that we did not forget the Peshawar tragedy, nor we could forget it.
Our nation and the Pak army have proved that we are not afraid of the cowardly terrorism activities, he maintained.
Another similar function was organized at a private school located in Satellite Town the same morning.
Actually it was the annual function of the school, which was attributed to the martyrs of APS Peshawar as a mark of solidarity with the bereaved families.
The Advisor to Chief Minister for Education, Sardar Raza Muhammad Baraich was the chief guest. Also present in the ceremony was the MPA Ms. Masooma Hayat, besides staff of the school, students and their parents.
Sardar Raza Muhammad and others paid tributes to the martyrs of APS Peshawar. They also expressed solidarity with the bereaved families of the martyrs. They said that the entire nation is united against terrorism in the country. He said that the great sacrifices rendered by the martyrs would not be forgotten at all.
He said that we are grieved over the APS Peshawar tragedy, and as such we have to learn lesson from the incident. However, we have to show our determination and progress educating our people, maintaining he stressed.
The tableaus were presented highlighting the incident and the sacrifice of the APS Peshawar’s teachers and students.
In the end, the Advisor to Chief Minister for Education and other participants offered fateha for the departed souls of the martyrs. They also prayed for the bereaved families.
Meanwhile, a function was held under the auspices of Awami National Party Balochistan at the Press Club. The Provincial President of ANP, Asghar Khan Achakzai, Party’s other leaders and workers attended.
They strongly condemned the incident and prayed for the departed souls of the martyrs.
While on the other hand, a function marking the first anniversary was held at the Balochistan Boy Scouts Association’s headquarter the same afternoon. The Boy Scouts Association and the Scouts Council organized the function.
The Members of the Provincial Assembly, Tahir Mehmood Khan and Ms. Samina Khan besides others were present in the ceremony.
All the participants were highly appreciative of the spirit of the bereaved families in the critical time. They also paid tributes to the martyrs besides expressing determination against terrorism.
The Boy Scouts’ function was followed by a walk showing solidarity with bereaved families of the martyrs.
The parliamentarians, civil society representatives, scouts and students of various educational institutions participated in the walk.
At end of the walk, the candles were lit by the participants.
In addition to it, a group of civil society representatives from Brewery area were gathered at the Press Club and showed solidarity with the nation in general and with the families of the martyrs in particular.
They also lit candles in memory of the martyrs.
Different events were also arranged by the Frontier Corps (FC) Balochistan at various districts. The homage was paid to the martyrs of APS Peshawar in these events. Special prayers were also offered for the martyrs.
Under auspices of the FC, an impressive ceremony was held at the Ghaza band Scouts in Baleli the same evening.
The Commandant Ghazaband Scous, Colonel Sajjad was the chief guest. The FC officers, dignitaries and students of FC school participated in the ceremony, which was culminated with candle lighting by the participants.
