Quetta City Master Plan; to take concrete
steps for provision of civic facilities in
Quetta metropolitan’s suburbs

QUETTA: Chief Minister, Nawab Sanaullah Zehri has directed to make comprehensive planning for expansion of Quetta city and provision of basic civic facilities in it’s suburbing areas.
In this regard, the Quetta Development Authority (QDA) should prepare Master Plan of the Quetta City so as to cope with the challenges of present and future.
These and similar other directives, the Chief Minister issued during a high level meeting recently chaired by him here the other day.
The meeting, which was attended by the members of the provincial assembly, Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal, Nawab Ayaz Khan Jogezai, Tahir Mehmood Khan, Nasarullah Zairay, Sardar Raza Muhammad Baraich, Manzoor Ahmed Kakar, Mayor of Quetta Metropolitan Corporation, Dr. Kalimullah, Deputy Mayor, Muhammad Younas Baloch, Chief Secretary, Saifullah Chattha, Additional Secretary Urban Planning and Development, Commissioner Quetta, Kambar Dashti, Director General QDA, SSP Traffic, Municipal Commissioner, senior high ups of the Sui Southern Gas Company and others.
The Chief Minister maintained that the wholehearted cooperation would be extended to the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and councilors of the Metropolitan to resolve the issues of the masses and meet the requirements of the Corporation.
He said that the powers of the representatives of the local government would be reviewed afresh. The rules and regulations of the local government which otherwise cause delay in the development projects would also be reviewed, he assured.
The Chief Minister on the occasion also directed to make the desalination water plant in the city.
He said that the number of personnel of traffic police would be increased in order to improve the city’s traffic. More lifter vehicles would also be provided to the traffic police. He directed to establish the Traffic Engineering Bureau as well so as to manage the traffic well and that in modern manner.
He also directed to ensure effective implementation on the ban on the plastic bags.
Earlier, the Chief Secretary briefing the meeting mentioned that the Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif has announced a package of Rs. 5 billion for beautification and development of the Quetta city.
The provincial government has proposed 10 projects for the city under the PM’s package, he added.
He said that the work is continued on development of the Coal railway crossing flyover and expansion of airport road.
Meanwhile, the meeting decided to shift the private bus and coaches terminals operating in the city area to Hazar Ganji by January 30, 2016.
A committee was also formed for development projects and construction of under passes in the Quetta city. the Additional Chief Secretary Planning and Development would head the committee, it was decided.
The committee would submit is report to the Chief Minister by January 15, 2015. The committee would comprise the members of the provincial assembly belonging to Quetta, Mayor Quetta, Secretary Communication and Works and Senior Member Board of Revenue.
