QUETTA: The provincial government has decided to launch special polio immunization campaign in Balochistan from January 11, 2016.
This was announced by the Coordinator of Emergency Operation Center (EOC) for Prevention and eradication of polio, Balochistan, Dr. Syed Saifur Rehman here on Saturday.
The four-day polio campaign would be launched in all districts of the province during which over 2.4 million children below five years of age would be administered the anti-polio vaccine, informed the Coordinator of EOC.
We have targeted all the children below five years of age for vaccination all over the province, he vowed. For the purpose, necessary arrangements have been made, Dr. Saifur Rehman informed adding that the security measures have also been adopted for the campaign.
The personnel of Police, Frontier Corps and Levies force would be deployed for security duty during the polio immunization campaign.
Dr. Saifur Rehman said that it would be our sincere effort to vaccinate each and every targeted child in the forthcoming campaign so as to eradicate the virus from the province fully.
Meanwhile, the arrangements have also been started at the district level.
A similar meeting was held in Naseerabad with Deputy Commissioner, Naseer Ahmed Nasser in the chair the other day.
All the district officers, Assistant Commissioners and representative of the WHO and other concerned departments attended the meeting, which reviewed arrangements of the upcoming immunization campaign in the district.
It was informed that 1,33,842 children would be vaccinated during the campaign for 331 mobile teams have been formed in the district.
They are included 129 female teams as well, it was further informed.
In addition to it, the vaccine would also be administered at 34 fixed centers, 28 transit points and 37 different health centers and basic health units.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner underlined the need to strictly monitor the immunization campaign in the district so as to achieve the desired results of the campaign and make it 100 percent successful.
He also called upon the concerned authorities to convince the parents and people refusing to administer the anti-polio drops to the children.
He said that the people refuse to the polio immunization just because of lack of awareness.
