QUETTA: The Quetta Metropolitan Corporation (QMC) has decided to launch extraordinary campaign against poor cleanliness and encroachments in the provincial metropolis from February 1, 2016.
The Quetta city would be divided into five zones for the forthcoming 15-day special campaign, announced by the Deputy Mayor of QMC, Muhammad Younas Baloch while speaking at a meeting held to review measures for improving state of cleanliness and thus restoring the traditional beauty of the city, here the other day.
The Chairman, Divisional Coordination Committee for cleanliness and encroachments and Commissioner Quetta, Kambar Dashti presided over the meeting.
The meeting was also attended by the Additional Commissioner Quetta, Muhammad Ishaq, Deputy Commissioner Quetta, Dawood Khilji, Assistant Commissioner Quetta city, Tariq Mengal, Chief Metropolitan Officer, Ataullah Baloch, besides the Deputy Mayor, Muhammad Younas Baloch, members of the supreme council and councilors, Malik Abdul Manan Kakar, Muhammad Aslam Rind, Abdul Ghaffar Qambrani, Abbas Ali Hazara, Muhammad Khalid and Jamshaid Dotani.
The issues related to the cleanliness and encroachments were discussed threadbare during the meeting.
There was a consensus on it that the Metropolitan Corporation and district administration would work together to bring improvement in the state of civic affairs putting an end to the encroachments and taking steps for cleanliness.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Mayor told the meeting about the special campaign against poor cleanliness and encroachments in the city.
As part of the campaign, an awareness walk would be arranged in which the people from all segments of the society, councilors, ulemas, traders, bankers and media persons would take part.
He said that there is a need to work against encroachments and ensuring cleanliness on war footing grounds so as to resolve the issues.
Younas Baloch stressed that it is collective responsibility of all segments to play their role for keeping the city clean.
He announced that all the sanitary staff and machinery would be mobilized to lift all the solid waste and the garbage from all over the city and thus to be dumped properly, he added.
A weekly meeting would also be held to review the state of cleanliness in the metropolis, he announced futher. The Mayor of QMC, Deputy Mayor, all the Assistant Commissioners of Quetta, concerned Project Director, councilors and other officials would attend the meeting.
The pace of measures being taken for cleanliness would be reviewed, he mentioned adding that the hurdles coming in the way would also be removed.
The Deputy Mayor also asserted that no one would be allowed road cutting without prior permission from the concerned committee.
Moreover, the councilors would supervise the campaign of cleanliness in their respective localities, he added.
Referring the street lights, he said that the concerned engineer has submitted his report about installation of the street lights after carrying out the necessary survey in this regard.
The street lights would be installed in light of the survey report, he maintained.
