QUETTA: The Coordinator of Emergency Operation Center (EOC) for Polio Eradication in Balochistan, Dr. Syed Saifur Rehman has stated that although it is a matter of great concern to see a new Polio case reported from Quetta city, but still we are confident that would succeed in eradicating polio virus from the province.
Talking to this scribe on Wednesday, the Coordinator of EOC was concerned about detection of the polio virus in a 30-month old child from Quetta, Ikram, but he was equally confident about its eradication in due course of time.
He said that the concerned authorities are acclaiming our efforts being made for the polio eradication in the province. They think that Balochistan would surely be the first province to be polio-free in the country, he noted with contentment.
While we are making sincere efforts to achieve the goal of polio-free Balochistan, the same would be made double now, he maintained.
Referring to the recent polio immunization campaign, Dr. Saifur Rehhman said that it was almost a successful in which we achieved the target to a great extent.
The post campaign monitoring also showed that it was comparatively good than the past, he said.
However, we would determine the causes behind the polio case surfaced on Tuesday last from Samungli area, the Coordinator of EOC vowed. It would help us to prevent the same well, he added.
He said that we would surely pay special attention on the transit points so as to check the movement and vaccinate each and every child passing through.
It may be mentioned here that polio virus was detected in the 30-month old son of Jumma Khan, a resident of Samungli area.
It was the first ever case of polio of the year 2016 reported from the province and third of the country, as was mentioned by the EOC Coordinator.
He said that our immunization data confirmed that the polio-infected child was vaccinated time and again. Therefore, it was also a matter of concern for us that how and why did it happen. In this regard, we would thoroughly investigate the matter, he assured.
It may also be mentioned here that a total of seven cases of polio had been reported in Balochistan province last year. Five of them were reported from Quetta.
