QUETTA: The World Civil Defence Day is being celebrated today (Tuesday) in Quetta as elsewhere in the country and world.
A mock demonstration is being staged to mark the Civil Defence Day by the Civil Defence Directorate near the Railway Station here.
The staff and volunteers of the Civil Defence would take part in the demonstration, which is aimed at bringing to the attention of the world public the vital importance of Civil Protection and of raising awareness of the preparedness for, and prevention and self-protection measures in the event of accidents or disasters; besides paying tribute to the efforts, sacrifices and accomplishments of all the national services responsible for the fight against disasters.
Needless to mention here is that the Civil Defence Day is observed every year on March 1.
This Day commemorates the entry into force of the ICDO Constitution as an intergovernmental organisation in 1972 and has two main purposes:
The World Days are an occasion for a variety of national events: colloquies, conferences, radio and television debates, open days, disaster prevention and simulation exercises. They also provide an opportunity to take stock of the development of civil protection structures and of the technical means and equipment currently available.
